Cruise the Mediterranean with the Museum Travel Alliance:
The Mediterranean’s azure waters have been plied by countless civilizations seeking safe harbors for their profitable merchandise. Fat-hulled grain ships brought bread from the Nile to Rome; Carthaginian galleys lugged rich dark wines from Sicily; and a millennia later a French trawler from recently conquered Corsica brought a fateful cargo to the mainland, a child soon to survive and rise from the chaos of the revolution. The Museum Travel Alliance offers back-to-back Mediterranean cruises aboard Sea Cloud II. You may first set sail along Sicily’s rugged coastlines, then cruise to Sardinia, Corsica, and Elba, concluding in Tuscany on the Italian mainland. Get more information on the Sicily cruise as well as a beautiful sea voyage to lesser-visited Mediterranean islands.

News from the Art World: This summer, three acclaimed Asian artists—Yusuke Asai of Japan, Pinaree Sanpitak of Thailand, and Kimsooja of South Korea—have filled the Hancock Shaker Village of Pittsfield, Massachusetts, with a fascinating new art exhibition. From incredible fusion delights cooked up out of the farm’s produce, to a mural painted out of the land’s dark rocky soil, to a number of steel stupas forged with help from a local blacksmith, these very different artists have expressed their connection to the Shaker movement through an “integration of the spiritual and the physical in their work, as well as communal ideals.” Learn more about the exhibition here.
